R.S.V.P.

We always get invitations requesting a 'RSVP'.. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I never really knew what it actually meant, apart from to 'respond' to the invite.. how to respond, when to respond, where it derived from where is it abbreviated from..? got a forward from N a few days back. on the Meaning of R.S.V.P. thought I'll share it here..

What RSVP Means? The term R.S.V.P. comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond". If R.S.V.P. is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. It does not mean to respond only if you're coming, and it does not mean respond only if you're not coming (the expression "regrets only" is reserved for that instance). It means the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs it by the date specified on the invitation. Why It's Inconsiderate to Not RSVP - An incomplete list of respondents can cause numerous problems for a host including difficulty in planning food quantities, issues relating to minimum guarantees with catering halls, uncertainty over the number of party favors and difficulties in planning appropriate seating, among other things.

So the next time u see R.S.V.P. on an invitation, better call the host and respond promptly… before we get tagged as 'rude'..

anyway, TGIF!! I'm so blurdy glad!! can't wait for the long weekend (Monday's a bank holiday in England).. nothing big planned but not on house quarantined either. N's friend is down from Malaysian on work.. taking her out on a shopping spree to one of the factory outlet in Oxford tom. Sunday is holy day (a.k.a. brownie points collection day!). plan to go to one of the Ganesha temples since its Ganesh Chaturthi.. might even pop by the ever spoken about Notting hill Carnivals if I have time. Having some friends over for lunch on Monday and catching 'Phantom of the Opera' musical (finally!) in the evening.. that will be the end of the long weekend.. and then back to good olde work…
