damn the mosquitoes!

Its 4 am and I’m at the GHKL, pulling an all nighter. killing time on the net. Dad’s been diagnosed for dengue and been admitted in the hosp the last 3 days. we are all worried. His blood platlet level has been decreasing rapidly and reached 4 a couple of hours ago. While it is common among dengue patients, doc did say the next 48 hours is rather critical. They increased his drip amount and asked him not to move much. or at all. take lots of fluid to make the blood less concentrated..

he was initially admitted in another private hospital but we moved him to GH. for two reasons, one dengue was apparently better treated at a government hospital and two, my sister is a houseman here. but I was certainly warned on the laid back lazy nurses in general hosp. while I won't generalize, one cannot be oblivious to their attitude either. They made a blunder this afternoon by not sending the blood for testing. a dengue patient will need a blood check 4-5 times a day and the result can be obtained in about 2 hours max. or 1/2hour if urgent. I kept asking them for the afternoon result and she didn't bother and finally made a call to trace the sample and realised his platlet count has gone down quite a bit. they informed the doc and he came rushing, telling my dad that the count has gone up bla bla. my dad was freaking out and that was hot certainly the way to discuss with a patient.

so, anyway, i'm staying awake to make sure they change the drip timely when its finished. and to make sure his breathing and all are normal. can't trust these nurses anymore. no offence to anyone in particular and again, not generalising. sister's on-call in the orthopedic ward and has been popping in occasionally to give her technical view on matters.

i'm praying hard the platlets will go up or we'll end up doing a blood transfusion. but i know he will be better. soon.
