the measure of success

there was this advert on todays newspaper, along the line of '..at your service to ensure a successful career..' by one of the local headhunters. it sort of got me thinking. what defines a 'successful' career? from the top of my mind, i can think of having a job;

  • where i'm acknowledged and recognised as a professional in what I do;
  • with a fat paycheck thats enough to support my lifestyle. then again, what is 'enough'? can anyone ever have or acknowledge enough? this brings us to a whole different topic for discussion which i'll perhaps write about some other time.
  • with an appreciative boss and recognising firm. a firm that values what I know and keeps driving me to achieve what i'm capable of;
  • where I can keep feeding aspirations and fires imagination while focusing on my goals;
  • which means a cheerful and enthusiastic morning, everyday. Not dreading the next 8 hours or so at work.

AND all these with a work-life balance and flexibility to juggle between both. is it too much to ask? okie, maybe they are not exactly what i should call 'successful career'. more like a 'dream' career. either way, its not a distant dream i suppose.
